"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." — John 14:6
For nearly 90 years, Montclair Church of Christ has stood as a pillar of faith, community, and service in New Jersey. Here is the story of how we came to be.
Pioneer minister and Evangelist Howard Johnson and four other members founded the Newark Church of Christ — the first African-American Church of Christ serving African-Americans in New Jersey.
Evangelist Johnson was called to serve as the minister of the Harlem Church of Christ, where he faithfully served the congregation for 13 years.
Evangelist Johnson and those four founding members came to Montclair, New Jersey, planting the Montclair Church of Christ and beginning a new chapter of ministry in Essex County.
Evangelist Howard Johnson went home to be with the Lord on January 28, 2007, having served as minister for over four decades. His legacy of giving and community service endures to this day.
Brother Raymond Wright was chosen to lead the congregation after the passing of Evangelist Johnson, faithfully shepherding the church until his retirement in September 2019.
Assistant Minister Dr. Willie L. Parker, Esq., LL.M, C:TM, was promoted to Minister, continuing the legacy of giving and community service established by Evangelist Johnson.
The mission of the Montclair Church of Christ is to preach the Gospel of Christ so that others might be saved, and to enhance in believers their love of God in order that their lives may be continuously transformed by and toward Christ Jesus.
A word from our minister, Dr. Willie L. Parker — whose leadership carries forward nearly nine decades of faithful witness in Montclair.
Minister Dr. Parker brings a distinguished background in law (Esq., LL.M) and ministerial training (C:TM) to his pastoral leadership. Having served as Assistant Minister before being elevated in 2019, he is deeply committed to the church's founding mission of evangelism, community service, and extending a loving welcome to all.

We follow the simple teachings of Christ as found in Scripture, seeking unity in faith as the early church did. Our commitment is to restore the practices and beliefs of the original church established by Jesus Christ and His apostles.
We believe in returning to the New Testament pattern for worship, organization, and Christian living, free from human traditions and denominational divisions.
Evangelism is at the heart of our mission. We are dedicated to sharing the Gospel message with those who need to hear it, helping individuals come to faith in Jesus Christ.
Beyond initial conversion, we are committed to spiritual growth and discipleship, providing ongoing support, teaching, and fellowship to help believers remain strong in their faith.
Our church family believes in the power of genuine Christian love and hospitality. We welcome all people, regardless of background, with open arms and warm hearts.
We strive to create an environment where everyone feels valued, accepted, and part of the family of God. Through fellowship and encouragement, we build relationships that reflect Christ's love.
We'd love to have you worship with us. Come experience the warmth and fellowship of our church family.
